On October 15, 2025, Development Reimagined convened a high-level, closed-door roundtable titled “What Next for U.S.-Africa Engagement? Centering African Priorities & Strategies for Effective U.S. Engagement” at the sidelines of the IMF/World Bank Annual meetings. The roundtable brought together key thought-leaders, policymakers and experts in the US-Africa space and was held under Chatham House rules.
The roundtable focused on elevating African-led priorities while charting practical pathways for deeper, more effective collaboration. Key areas of focus included the need to increase investment into strategic entry points, in particular in extractive resources. This includes partners mitigating challenges to enhancing U.S. investment, such as shifting biased African risk narratives and exploring innovative financing methods.
Further, alignment between U.S. and African agendas was highlighted, in particular within major infrastructure corridors, which can be multifaceted engines for growth due to the potential to spur job growth, boost agricultural productivity, enhance digital connectivity, and expand electricity access.
