Event: Development Reimagined Joins China-Africa Partnership for Sustainable Investment in Renewable Energy

October 24, Qingdao, China – Development Reimagined (DR) was invited to participate in a side forum of the Third Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference, themed “South-South Cooperation & Development in Renewable Energy.” Held in Qingdao, Shandong Province, the event was hosted by China’s National Energy Authority and the China Renewable Energy Industry Association (CREIA), with guidance from China’s National Energy Authority. DR is engaging with key policymakers, CSOs, and industry leaders from China and BRI countries, especially from Africa, to discuss innovative financial schemes and technology solutions aimed at meeting Africa’s energy needs.

Representing DR, Climate Program Manager Yike signed the ‘China-Africa Partnership for Sustainable Investment in Renewable Energy.’ This partnership aims to accelerate trade and investment in renewable energy and related technologies across Africa in a sustainable and inclusive manner, thereby supporting Africa’s energy access, transition to low-carbon development, and resilience to climate change.

In the afternoon, partnership members participated in the first working group meeting, where they discussed and established the group’s objectives, plans, and other key focus areas. They also exchanged views on the opportunities and challenges of Chinese investment in Africa, Africa’s renewable energy needs, and the potential for China-Africa cooperation in the renewable energy sector.

During the meeting, Yike delivered a keynote speech, sharing DR’s findings on the progress of China-Africa clean energy cooperation since FOCAC 8. Yike highlighted key areas for future collaboration, particularly in achieving African 300 GW Renewable Energy Target by 2030.

As a member of the partnership, DR has also highlighted its next moves on providing practical services to boost Chinese investment in the continent, like matchmaking events, workshops and field tours to visit the identified African countries, including Zambia, Uganda, Angola, Mozambique and DRC.
