"#Digitalnomad visas offer a win–win opportunity for many low- and middle-income countries. But for #African and Arab nations they offer something deeper: an opportunity to return to our history and reshape our borders". My latest @fDiIntelligence #oped.

#African and other developing countries experienced #vaccineapartheid during the #covid19 pandemic. Our infographics for the month of July ask and answer: will #Africa experience the same with the emerging #therapeutics?

Remote working and the rise of digital nomads offer a chance for African and Arab nations to return to their history and reshape their digital borders, argues @hmryder in her latest #FDI column.

Delighted to have our geopolitics analyst @OvigweEguegu contribute to an @NBRnews publication discussing the Digital Silk Road in #Africa and the challenges that must be overcome before its fully implanted in #Africa.
In the 1980s “creditors allowed interest rates to rise… leaving borrowers to absorb the shock. It is this that caused debt to rise… not excessive or “irresponsible” borrowing.” Our @jadescarfe argues for new solutions in an interview with @TomBaxter17

The #EU is supporting the @_AfricanUnion’s bid to become a permanent member of the @g20org but has failed to back African positions that would make an immediate material difference on the continent. #Africa #EUAfrica #G20

What can #SierraLeone’s government do to respond to protests? On @AJInsideStory our policy analyst @OvigweEguegu argues short-term interventions are useful, but industrialisation to create jobs & value-addition is the only sustainable action. 👀 here.

I'll be live on @AJEnglish Inside Story at 6:30PM (GMT+1) to discuss the recent anti-government protests in Sierra Leone.

Q: Should #Africa have a partnership strategy with its partners?
A: Yes! Our blueprint - “From China-Africa to Africa-China: A Blueprint for Africa’s China Strategy” acts as a guide for #Africans on how to forge this partnership especially with #China.

The current situation is certainly a (umpteenth!) wake up call. Of the need to focus on #African fertilizer production, rather than on access to international imports only, while being mindful of the environmental impact. But as importantly, for greater regional trade!
Analysis by @DevReimagined is great https://twitter.com/DevReimagined/status/1527753453547753472?t=ruEL1-lP-W9uETKy867SiQ&s=19
It shows that fertilizer imports from #Ukraine and #Russia while important are not major, and African countries are exporters. In fact African countries exported 36% more fertilizers than imported back in 2020!
Not to downplay the fertilizer crisis, but I do think its scale in #Africa is exaggerated.
E.g. 980 million farmers (over 75% of overall population) depend on fertilizers? In a context of lots of subsistence farming? For food production? Or are they used for cash crops? https://twitter.com/SanBilal1/status/1557670981228961794
